NU-BOLT ASSEMBLY

The Nu-Bolt assembly comprises a U-bolt with polyshrink, four nuts and a cut and drilled piece of half-round I-Rod material. Available in sizes up to 42 inch.


I-ROD MATERIAL

I-Rod thermoplastic material is sold in half-round lengths or cut and drilled to fit standard U-bolts from 2” to 36".

I-ROD CLIP

I-Rod clips conveniently fasten to new or existing cradle-style supports, Grinnell clamps and pipe shoes.

Introduction

I-Rod was developed specifically to combat crevice corrosion
and ensure longer, safer lives for pipelines by eliminating crevices
between pipes and supports.

CREVICE CORROSION AT PIPE SUPPORTS CAN CAUSE CATASTOPIC PIPE FAILURE

Pipe supports of all types are susceptible to crevice corrosion caused by trapped water in close contact with the pipe and its atmospheric coating. Crevice corrosion is aggressive and can eat through the wall of a pipe very quickly.

A FLAT SURFACE

A pipe on a flat surface exposed to the elements is not properly protected against corrosion. There is no room for air to flow through.

A CREVICE FORMS

A crevice between pipe and support will trap water. Since the water cannot escape, it creates corrosion that rapidly causes wall loss.

CORROSION SPREADS

The pattern of crevice corrosion is very recognizable as it spreads from the point of initial paint failure.

PAINT TRAPPED UNDER WATER

The coatings used on process piping are atmospheric; they're designed only to work above water. When water cannot escape the area where the pipe touches the support, the pipe effectively becomes submerged and the paint fails. It's not supposed to work under water!

I-Rod products are manufactured from extremely durable materials able to support enormous amounts of weight. While conducting offshore inspections, our technicians routinely discover imitations of I-Rod that have broken or crushed, leaving pipes dangerously unprotected. Usually, these are low-grade imitations, but some use otherwise high-quality materials – such as Teflon and Delrin - that aren’t well suited for this type of use. Teflon, in particular, fails because of its lack of compressive strength.

Real I-Rod is printed with a traceable batch number, and each shipment comes with a certificate of authenticity.
